Instructions for downloading and importing problem sets to a WeBWorK course

To install a problem set archive:
  1. Click on the archive to download it to your computer. The filename should end in ".waz".
  2. Go to the File Manager in your WeBWorK course. You do not have to change the folder you are in (the default is templates, which is what you want).
  3. Click on the "Browse..." button to find the archive you want to upload. Leave "Unpack archives automatically" and "then delete them" checked. If you have other sets in your course, you may want to check "Overwrite existing files silently".
  4. Click "Upload"
  5. Go to the Hmwk Sets Editor page.
  6. The 5th line from the top is "Import". Switch from "a single set" to "multiple sets", select the files you want. You probably all of them, so click on the first and hold the shift key down as you click on the last one.
  7. Click "Take Action!"
You now have the the semester's worth of assignments loaded in your course.

Instructions for creating a problem collection

To create an archive of problem sets:
  1. Export sets: from the Hmwk Sets Editor page,
    1. Select (with the checkboxes) the problem sets you want to save.
    2. At the top, choose Export and change the drop-drop menu to selected sets, and click Take Action!.
    3. You can revise your choices at this point, but then click the radio button next to Export selected sets and then click Take Action!.
  2. Make an archive: from the File Manager page,
    1. A set you exported called Section 5 will be called setSection_5.def here. Select all of the sets you want to put into the archive. Remember that shift-click will select a range of items, and control-click will toggle whether an individual item is selected or not.

Note, if you have other files you want to preserve, like special header files or problems you have written, select those at the same time. If you have a whole directory (these appear with a slash at the end of their names) of files, click on the name of the directory.

    2. Click Make Archive. WeBWorK will tell you if it was able to create the archive, and if so, what its name is. The name should end with .waz. Suppose its name is myoldcourse.waz.
    3. Now find myoldcourse.waz in the list of files (looking for the actual name from the last step of course), click on it, and then click the Download button. It should be saved to your computer.
You should now have myoldcourse.waz on your computer. You can save it for a future semester, and then import it to a course just like any of the .waz files which can be dowloaded here. You can e-mail it as an attachment to friends so that they can use it in their courses, or e-mail it to course-request@webwork.asu.edu for inclusion here.
